Ghana – November 29, 2024 – OnePIN, a leader in digital engagement solutions, and MTN, Ghana’s leading telecommunications provider, have joined forces to support UNICEF in its efforts to eradicate polio through a nationwide vaccine awareness campaign. Leveraging OnePIN’s innovative digital engagement platform, UNICEF has reached nearly six million MTN mobile subscribers with critical information about the availability of safe and effective polio vaccines for children under the age of five.

As part of the campaign, top-screen messages were sent directly to mobile devices—the most widely used and trusted communication tool in Ghana. These messages informed families that health teams would be visiting homes during a specified period to administer the polio vaccine. Families who missed these visits were encouraged to visit their nearest health centers to ensure their children received the life-saving vaccine. To reinforce the message, follow-up SMS notifications provided detailed information that parents could reference at their convenience.

“This collaboration underscores the power of technology and strategic partnerships in promoting public health initiatives,” noted Michaela Louw, OnePIN’s lead Marketing Manager within the African market.  UNICEF’s mission to eliminate polio, a preventable yet potentially devastating disease, relies on innovative approaches to reach every corner of the globe. By harnessing MTN’s vast network and OnePIN’s cutting-edge engagement tools, the campaign maximized its impact, empowering parents with the knowledge and resources to protect their children.

UNICEF’s polio eradication efforts are critical for building a healthier future. UNICEF’s goal was to connect families directly with timely and actionable health information to make a meaningful difference in communities across Ghana.

As a socially responsible company, MTN is committed to using their network to positively impact lives. Collaborating with UNICEF and OnePIN to spread awareness about polio vaccines is an honor, and we remain dedicated to supporting public health initiatives that create a brighter future for all.”

This initiative highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing global health challenges. Together, UNICEF, OnePIN, and MTN have demonstrated how technology can play a vital role in ensuring every child has access to the protection they deserve.
